As the starter's horn blared, hundreds
of family, friends, supporters and sponsors took off running
and walking to raise awareness for the Susan Cohan Colon
Cancer Foundation's mission to dramatically reduce the death
rate from colon cancer. Under a glorious crystal clear blue
sky an eclectic crowd including our most valued guests;
those that have lost their treasured loved ones and those
that are facing the battle of their lives against this
dreaded killer, filled the streets of
Towson Maryland.
Runners and walkers from 2 to 82 joined together on a
delightful trip through historic
Towson
neighborhoods admiring the interesting architecture and gaining
inspiration along the way.
It was a busy start to the day as the runners checked in and warmed up.
All were treated to live entertainment from Smooth Teaze, a local vocal
group. After Smooth Teaze provided an inspiring rendition of America The
Beautiful it was off to the starting line for the several hundred
runners and walkers. As participants finished their run/walk they were
met with more live music and a delicious Continental breakfast provided
by our generous sponsors. Once all of the results were tabulated the
always popular awards ceremony recognized the top three finishers in
each age group with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. Finally rounding out
the awards was the presentation of some fabulous door prizes which sent
everyone home with big smiles.
The Foundation wants to express a special thank you to Race
Director Dr. Howard Berg and the staff of Colon Rectal Surgery Associates that
gave so much of themselves to achieve such a magnificent event. Key supporters
included our wonderful Title partners, Quidel Corporation and M&T Bank and
Media sponsor, Comcast. We'd also like to recognize the Foundation
sponsors Panera bread, Target Marketing, Bakery Express, Wegmans, Ms.
Desserts, Savings 1st Mortgage and new partner
St. Joseph's Hospital. Thanks to our tremendous volunteers for their
invaluable help and of course to the runners and walkers for their energy and
competiveness. The great determination of our supporters represents Susie's
uncompromising strength in her battle against colon cancer. The unyielding will
of the cancer patients remind us of Susie’s vision to create the Foundation.
The look in the young children's eyes of the cancer patients reminds all of us
that no child should grow up without a parent.
With overwhelming support like this Susie’s Cause will continue our
educational programs to dramatically increase screening rates.
